■Environmental protection & Incorporation of RoHS Directive
In advocating protection of the global environment as the main principle of our management philosophy, we have been proactively working towards environmental improvement companywide. As a result of our commitment, SUNX head quarters successfully attained ISO 14001 international standards certification for environmental management system in Sep. 1999. We achieved "zero emissions" of waste material in Sep. 2002, following by the accomplishment of lead-free soldering of the majority of our sensor products excluding part of cable components in Oct. 2006. Currently our sensor-related products are exempt from the RoHS Directive implemented since Jul. 2006 in the EU region; however, we have been putting great efforts in complying with the requirements. Based on environmental principles, we are constantly thriving for improvement on environmental conservation in our environment-conscious activities and product development.
■What is the RoHS Directive?
The RoHS Directive bans the placing on the EU market of electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of six substances of lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, cadmium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenylether (PBDE) flame retardants. The Directive was implemented on Jul. 1, 2006. However, since our sensor-related products are monitoring and control devices (Category 9), we are exempt from the RoHS requirements as of Oct. 30, 2006. In addition, laser markers and static removers are also outside of the category range.
■Judgment standards for conformity to the RoHS Directive
For equipment with built-in sensor-related products, there are cases where the equipment is within the category range. Please confirm on the the equipment in such cases.
| Regulated substances | RoHS regulation values |
|---|---|
| Lead | 1,000 ppm or less |
| Mercury | 1,000 ppm or less |
| Hexavalent chromium | 1,000 ppm or less |
| Cadmium | 100 ppm or less |
| Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) | 1,000 ppm or less |
| Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) | 1,000 ppm or less |
